Gasometer
Background and challenge
Gasometer is a new cultural landmark in Gasverksområdet, Norra Djurgårdsstaden, Stockholm. Designed by Ferdinand Boberg and completed in 1899, the monumental gas holder is now being transformed by Miramis into a destination with two venues: Theatre, accommodating up to 2,300 guests, and Dome, at the top of the building beneath a 17-metre-high ceiling.
Ahead of its opening, Gasometer needed a website that would establish a brand-new identity from day one while serving several audiences – people buying tickets, guests looking to dine in the restaurant, and companies planning conferences and events.
Solution
As a web agency we began by analysing the audiences and what each needed to find, from programmes and tickets to dining, meetings and events. The design took shape in close collaboration with Gasometer’s own team. They develop the visual identity, which we used as the foundation for the page designs – creating a website that captures the grandeur of the building’s architecture while making it easy to plan a visit.
The website is built with Payload CMS and is headless, with content in Swedish and English and flexible blocks that make it easy for Gasometer’s team to update programmes, menus and event information themselves. An AI solution manages the English version, automatically translating content via ChatGPT. The team can choose which model to use, keeping both languages up to date without duplicating work.
Gasometer is run by Miramis, which is also behind Cirkus, Hasselbacken and Backstage. Pigment previously built the websites for both Miramis and Cirkus, and Gasometer marked the next step in the partnership.
